The government of Japan has extended grant assistance worth Japanese Yen 318 million (around 3 million US dollars) to the govt of Pakistan for “The Project for Human Resource Development Scholarship (JDS) for the financial year 2020”.

Japan Announces JDS Scholarships for Pakistani Students

The grant was signed by Noor Ahmed, Secretary, Economic Affairs Division (EAD), and MATSUDA Kuninori, Ambassador of Japan. A grant agreement on the small print of the implementation of the project for the financial year 2020 was also signed by Shigeki Furuta, Chief Representative of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), and Rahman Shah, Deputy Secretary, EAD.

JDS is meant to support the social and economic development of the country by providing officialdom a chance to get a Master’s or Doctoral degree in Japan to strengthen the executive capacity of officials. 

Japan Scholarships for Pakistan


The participants of the JDS program who are involved within the formulation and implementation of policies are expected to find out in partner universities in Japan and acquire knowledge of their specialties also because of the know-how of how Japan became a rustic because it is today. 

As JDS in Pakistan was started in 2018 and has four batches in consecutive four years, Pakistan is experiencing the third batch of the program this year. 

For the third batch, the utmost number of the slots for JDS participants in Pakistan are eighteen (18) seats for a Master’s degree and two (2) seats for a Doctoral degree. 

Who can apply for the Scholarships by Japan

This project will strengthen the government’s administrative capacities by providing scholarship opportunities to get master's and doctoral degrees to the young capable officialdom who are expected to play leadership roles in contributing to the economic development of the country. it'll also build a person's network, and eventually, strengthen the bilateral relationship/partnership between both the countries of Japan and Pakistan. 

Shigeki said this program will provide young and promising officialdom with significant opportunity to review and acquire masters or Ph.D. degrees in universities in Japan. those that attend this program are anticipated to play leading roles of the govt within the future in formulating and implementing social and economic policies for the event of Pakistan.
